10 Songs Everyone Needs on Their BAB Playlist

Asking yourself what a BAB Playlist is? A quick Google search will help you out with that.

I throw on my BAB Playlist when I'm at the gym or just need a quick boost of that girl power energy these songs give me. Scrolling through my playlist, these are the songs that stood out to me as vital in its conception and evolution.

Savage Remix (feat. Beyonce) - Megan Thee Stallion

Just when you thought 'Savage' couldn't get any catchier, Megan Thee Stallion brought Beyonce on the track. What I love most about this track is that it's a true remix, even Meg's verses change. It's absolute fire. The song just screams confidence, sass, and girl power the whole way through. It's a must have on your playlist.

Salute - Little Mix

I only recently stumbled upon 'Salute' and I was hooked from the first listen. Little Mix will have you ready to go to war with your girls beside you. Strength, independence, confidence - all the makings of a girl-power anthem are here.

Truth Hurts - Lizzo

Lizzo is that B, ladies and gentlemen! She is so unapologetically herself it's incredible and she took the world over in 2019. Lizzo is proof that patience, hard work, and determination will pay off in the end. She is the definition of self confidence and she doesn't need validation from any man to know it.

Circus - Britney Spears

'Circus' is easily one of my favorite Britney songs and I've been a faithful fan since 'Baby One More Time'. I mean I had the Britney dolls that sang when you pushed her belly button. We've been through a lot me and Brit! 'Circus' came out in 2008 and it immediately went on to my pre-competition/workout playlist. Today, it's on my BAB and gym playlists. Britney released 'Circus' post-public breakdown and it proved that the Princess of Pop would always have her sass and power even if she stumbled.

Hard (feat. Jeezy) - Rihanna

Rihanna doesn't take any crap from her critics and she isn't afraid to let you know that your opinion of her doesn't change who she knows she is. Like the song says, she is brilliant and resilient. She shuts down questions from reporters that try to take the focus away from her work and put it on what she's wearing or who she is/isn't dating. She is a boss and she'll call you out if you're talking smack without hesitating for a second.

PS - I'm still waiting on that new album Rih.

Misery Business - Paramore

I mean, seriously, is there any girl in the world who hasn't shouted the famous lines 'Second chances they don't ever matter, people never change. Once a whore, you're nothing more. I'm sorry that'll never change." at the top of their lungs? If you haven't, I feel like you at least screamed it on the inside. Right or wrong, we've all compared ourselves to other females. In this song, the girl you've compared yourself to loses and the "underdog" prevails. Paramore no longer plays the song live because of the slut-shaming line so why did I include it on this playlist? Because it's unapologetic, catchy, and Hayley can sing her butt off.

Fall in Line (feat. Demi Lovato) - Christina Aguilera

Let me just start by saying that 'Fall in Line' did not get the attention it deserved worldwide. It is absolutely brilliant. These two vocalists took a stand against misogyny and sexism and is a feminist anthem. I get chills listening to it. Christina and Demi speak to all women and remind them that they have their own voice and just because society may expect you to "fall in line" with traditional gender roles, it doesn't mean you have to. Speak your truth and be yourself unapologetically.

Step On Up - Ariana Grande (Blackout Version)

This remix is EVERYTHING. I have never heard the original version of 'Step On Up' and I don't know that I ever want to because it fits like a glove on the 'Gimme More' beat. 'Step On Up' will have you feeling confident, sassy, and ready to take names. I first came across this when scrolling through TikTok and it was so catchy that I had to find the full remix. The editor also has a link to download the file on their YouTube channel, which is awesome and appreciated!

Flawless (feat. Nicki Minaj) - Beyonce

I just had to include the concert performance of this track because no one puts on a show quite like Beyonce. I mean seriously, even if you don't like her music, you can't tell me she doesn't put everything she has into her performances. She exudes confidence and has the most unreal stage presence. Add in Nicki Minaj and it's turned up even more. When I first heard the remix and heard B say 'Onika' I screamed. I mean COME ON. These two music titans together again?! You just know it's about to go down and the men and the critics better take several seats because the ladies are running the show.

Nightmare - Halsey

Raise your hand if you've ever been told by a man that you should smile more. Keep it raised if it irritated you to no end. A lot of the time when this is said to women, it comes across as condescending. She also addresses other issues like body image when she talks about pinching her skin between her fingers and wanting to cut some parts off with some scissors. In 'Nightmare' Halsey hits back at the people and thoughts that get us down and lets the everyone know she doesn't own them "a Goddamn thing".

Hopefully this list helps you create your own BAB playlist so you can start taking over the world to your very own soundtrack.

Until next time,

K
