#Next90Challenge

We’re all searching for things to lean on right now. There have been big surges of social media challenges to keep people engaged and thinking of happier, more stable times. One of my favorites was a ‘See a pup, send a pup’, because who doesn’t love seeing a cute dog photo besides maybe cat people?

Those seem to be slowing down as more people process everything that is happening in its entirety. That being said, I want to share my current “go-to” with you all!

I love this author, Rachel Hollis. She’s fantastic. The first book I read from her was ‘Girl, Wash Your Face’. It’s about lies we tell ourselves that hold us back. She’s extremely authentic and reading her stuff is like sitting down and talking to an old friend. I have her book ‘Girl, Stop Apologizing’ on deck to read next. I'm currently wrapping up Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. It's a fantastic read about bringing magic back to England. Clarke's writing style is unlike anything I've read before. There are times she addresses the reader directly, she uses footnotes, and it's just a cool book overall. It is lengthy, approaching nearly 800 pages in the hardback copy, so you do have to be committed to it for some time. It's the kind of book you don't rush through in my opinion. You get lost in the story and seeing how the pieces fit together. It's a really well done piece of literature.

Back to the point of this post...

Rachel Hollis and her husband, Dave, are motivational speakers. They released a free 90 Day Challenge called #Next90Challenge to help get people through this crazy time. The spark note version of this challenge is to follow your ‘5 to Thrive’ and tune in to a weekly lesson.

So what’s ‘5 to Thrive’?

  1. Drink Water – half your body weight in ounces every day

  2. Give up a Category – one food category you know you shouldn’t be eating for 30 days

  3. Start Each Day with Gratitude – write down 5 things you’re grateful for every morning

  4. Move Your Body – Get at least 30 minutes of activity in every day

  5. Wake up 1 hour earlier than you need to and use that time for yourself

Not exactly anything we haven’t heard before but good reminders in a time where it’s so easy to think about other things. I’ve attached the link below in case any of you are interested in joining along. I’ll do my best to share updates as I go through this too. I've got my own accountability group (thanks Ali & Angie!) checking in with me daily but a little internet accountability doesn't hurt either!

As far as my 5 to Thrive goes:

  1. Water is tough for me, I’m a pop drinker. I've been making conscious efforts to get better but don't drink as much as I need to. This will be a great focus for me!

  2. I’m giving up chips. I love to snack so I will definitely miss my chips when I'm feeling munchy.

  3. I’ve got my notebook ready for my gratitude.

  4. The exercise is part of my normal, aside from working out at home but we must adapt. I'm currently trying out the Nike Training app and love it so far!

  5. Waking up an hour earlier than I need to is also tough. Today I snoozed for 10 minutes but I’ll work on it and hopefully it will get easier as we go.

Til next time,

K
